Burnley BID working on schemes to benefit visitor experience

Burnley Bid Street Cleaning

Burnley Business Improvement District (BID) is helping to deliver two schemes to further boost the experience for people who visit the town centre.

The organisation, which is now in the third year of its first term, is working with partners on the initiatives which are geared towards creating an even better atmosphere and physical environment for shoppers, workers and businesses.

The first project sees Burnley BID funding additional street cleaning across the town centre on top of the service that is provided by Burnley Council’s Streetscene team.

This follows a recent visitor survey carried out by the BID team which found that the public wanted to see cleaner streets.

As part of the scope of work, people wearing the Discover Burnley branding are carrying out a deep clean over the next few weeks to remove dirt, grime and mould on the streets and street furniture at various locations.

St James’s Street and the pavements on Hammerton Street and Boot Way are the first to be tackled while Standish Street will be covered at a later date.

Elsewhere, the BID is teaming up with Participation Works, Calico and partners from team Thrive to help combat youth antisocial behaviour.

Youth workers funded by Burnley BID are going to be situated in Burnley Market every Wednesday afternoon from 3pm-5pm to engage with young people, find out if they are having any issues and help signpost them to support through various agencies.

This will be a 12-month project in addition to the Wednesday and Friday evenings that youth workers already operate in the town centre.

Andrew Dean, Burnley BID project manager, has spoken about the initiatives and revealed why the BID has provided the extra funding.

“We’re committed to helping create a fantastic environment for all people who visit Burnley town centre and both of these projects are geared towards maintaining and building upon this.

“The cleaning work will make a lot of areas look more aesthetically pleasing which plays an important role in peoples’ perceptions of a place, while our efforts to tackle antisocial behaviour -  which complement the amazing work already done by Participation Works - are geared towards providing support and advice and will act as a preemptive measure.

“We’re looking forward to seeing the impact of these initiatives over the coming weeks and will continue to work with our town centre partners to make Burnley a great place to visit for all.”
