Bleep's in-store success at the Commonwealth Games

Bleep UK PLC supplied an EPOS solution, consisting of more than 160 terminals, for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Glasgow 2014The Bleep EPOS system was installed in over 40 official shops across all 13 venues, such as George Square, Celtic Park, Hampden Park, Ibrox Stadium, the SECC and Glasgow Green. These stores sold a range of products and merchandise, such as team wear, clothing, gifts, accessories and traditional Scottish goods for the duration of the 20th Commonwealth Games, which took place from the 23rd July to the 3rd August.

After successful installs this summer at the Open Championship and the World Cup in Brazil, both the Bleep TS-915 and TS-910 all in one EPOS terminals were deployed in the stores. Each terminal featured built in laser scanners, interactive POS Media video displays, integrated Ingenico payment devices and thermal receipt printers.

All terminals reported back to Bleep’s cloud based Web Back Office, providing live access to sales, staff and stock information, across all venues, sites and stores.

Bleep secured this contract on the back of its high profile, proven event retail experience since the London 2012 Olympic Games. Each EPOS terminal in all of the 40 retail units open across the city and in the venues, had to be robust and reliable enough to cope in this fast paced environment. The majority of tills were operating from early in the morning until late at night, with little respite from paying customers, especially in the 12,500 sq ft superstore in George Square in the heart of Glasgow.

Transactions had to be fast and efficient, allowing items to be quickly scanned and payments to be taken in as little time as possible, by card or cash. The data provided by Web Back Office allowed for proactive management decisions on stock and staffing levels, to maximise revenues during the event. Additionally, the system had to be easy to use for the several hundred temporary staff employed to handle the sale of the official Commonwealth Games merchandise. Ross Weszka, head of marketing at Bleep UK PLC, said: “The Commonwealth Games capped off a great sporting summer for Bleep. This was another prestigious sporting event which we supplied, proving we are the leading provider of event EPOS systems.”
