Chorley-based architecture studio BCAE Architects has launched a new specialist service focused on designing and advising on accommodation for people with disabilities and catastrophic injuries.
The service combines architectural design with feasibility reporting and expert witness support, delivering a full end-to-end solution for complex housing needs.
The new service builds on BCAE’s existing architectural expertise and is supported by the firm’s recent merger with DMA Associates, bringing specialist knowledge in accessible housing and inclusive environments.
The service supports both adaptations to existing homes and specialist new-build accommodation.
It is designed for individuals with complex and evolving needs, including spinal and brain injuries, neurological conditions and progressive disabilities.
The team works with healthcare and legal professionals to ensure solutions are practical, compliant and robust under professional scrutiny.
BCAE’s approach is rooted in the belief that a home is more than walls and a roof.
For people with disabilities, it can mean the difference between dependence and independence.
The firm’s specialist service focuses on creating environments that remove barriers, while also delivering spaces that feel beautiful, comfortable and genuinely lived-in.
Whether adapting an existing property or designing a new one, the aim is to make independence feel effortless, safe and sustainable without compromising on design quality.
BCAE has joined forces with David Alcock, a highly regarded expert in accessible and specialist housing design.
David is a Chartered Building Surveyor (MRICS) and Associate Director at BCAE Architects, with more than 30 years’ experience in accessible housing. His work includes bespoke home adaptations, as well as projects with local authorities, housing associations and private clients.
David said: "Accessible housing requires a clear understanding of the individual’s needs, care requirements and long-term wellbeing.
"This service brings together technical expertise and practical design to deliver suitable, future-proofed accommodation."
The merger with DMA Associates enables BCAE to offer a complete service that includes expert witness and advisory support alongside architectural design and delivery.
BCAE’s specialist service includes architectural design for adaptations and specialist new-build accommodation, feasibility studies and property option appraisals, accommodation needs assessments, cost evaluations, and technical reports for legal and insurance purposes. Expert witness services are also available where required.
The service is designed for individuals and families, as well as professional teams including case managers, occupational therapists, solicitors, insurers and legal deputies.
BCAE supports clients whose needs may change over time, helping to clarify suitability and long-term accommodation options.
Ben Craven and Arron El-ammar, managing directors, BCAE Architects, said: “Launching this specialist service is a key development for BCAE.
"David’s expertise in accessible housing strengthens our capability to deliver practical and compliant accommodation solutions for clients with complex needs.”
