Students from Rhyddings and St Andrew’s CE Primary School in Oswaldtwistle recently heard about the amazing opportunities available to them in Hyndburn from local business leaders.

Representatives from Sundown Solutions, iMEP – International Music Event Production, Peter Scott Printers and Scott Dawson Advertising attended the two schools, in visits organised by #AmazingAccrington, on Friday 22nd March.

Students heard about the fantastic range of opportunities available to them during a fascinating morning of careers advice, from Apprenticeships and marketing, to cyber and music event production.

The school visits also included a competition, which saw students invited to write their thoughts about Accrington on a card, with one entry from each school then being picked at random to win a prize. Ayub Javed secured the £50 prize from Rhyddings, while Lewis Smith won the £20 prize at St Andrew’s CE Primary School.

Murray Dawson, chair of #AmazingAccrington, managing director of Scott Dawson Advertising and owner of Peter Scott Printers, said: “We had a great time visiting both Rhyddings and St Andrew’s CE Primary School with fellow #AmazingAccrington business leaders.

“As business leaders it is extremely important that we engage with the borough’s future employees and invest time to showcase some of the amazing opportunities available here in Hyndburn.”

Will Fort, a software developer at Sundown Solutions, said: “We had an excellent morning chatting to and inspiring students to start a career in tech. It is important for us as a business to encourage and support, as the students move towards making their education and career choices.”

Eddy O’Brien, CEO at iMEP, commented: “It has been a real pleasure to visit two local schools in Accrington and speak to students about the wide variety of roles that are available in our industry.

“The students were so enlightened and engaged about what a future working for iMEP would look like and were very interested to learn more! It’s the first time we have done this and it was excellent to showcase our experiences and our new brand.”

Judith Dutton, careers leader at Rhyddings, said: “We have been really fortunate to welcome some fantastic businesses to come and talk to our Year 9 pupils to learn about some of the jobs and opportunities that are available in the Hyndburn borough.”

Paul Burns, assistant headteacher at St Andrew’s CE Primary School, said: “Our Year 6 classes enjoyed a talk about some of the businesses in Accrington and future careers for when they want to grow up.”
