#AmazingAccrington, the Job Centre and a host of local employers hosted a Jobs and Apprenticeship Fair today, Friday 17th June at Accrington Town Hall, to showcase opportunities available locally.

The event, sponsored by Studio Retail Ltd, was open to anyone of any age, who may be looking for employment, thinking about doing an apprenticeship or training, or looking for career advice. The event, which is planned to run annually, provides the opportunity to find out more about jobs and apprenticeships, directly from employers and training providers.

Employers with live vacancies attended from a diverse range of fields, including Studio Retail, Emerson & Renwick, CMAC, and Townfield Care amongst others. Training advice was on offer from local training providers North Lancs Training Group (NLTG), Lancashire Adult Learning and Themis amongst others. The Job Centre team were also on hand to offer advice and opportunities.

Collette King, HR director, Studio Retail, said: “Studio is the largest employer in the borough, and we are always on the lookout for new talent. We offer a lot of opportunities for a wide range of careers that people may not have thought of, such as IT and design, and we’re really supportive of events like these, which give us a chance to talk to people face to face.”

Cllr Miles Parkinson, leader of Hyndburn Borough Council, added: “It’s great to see the wealth of opportunities available locally, and a good turn out of people ready and willing to take up positions. There are training opportunities too for people to retrain or add some new skills – we’ve got some really strong companies locally who operate all round the world, and coming down to this event means they can find the right staff to support their growth.”

Heath Groves, chief executive officer at Sundown Solutions, added: “It's been a fantastic event, once again we’ve had a good set of people come through, which will help with our recruitment pipeline. Quite a few apprentices and potential candidates, as well as actual new hires. It’s been fantastic today, and we’ll definitely be at the next one!”
