Accrington Stanley played a starring role in the hugely successful #AmazingAccrington Christmas Lights Switch On, which welcomed more than 15,000 people for an unforgettable night of festive celebrations.

First-team players Captain Seamus Conneely, Alex Henderson, Charlie Caton, Connor O'Brien, Ollie Wright and Josh Smith joined members of Accrington Stanley Women on the main stage, where they were interviewed by host Stephen Lowe.

The players thrilled the crowd by kicking inflatable footballs into the audience, creating a fun and energetic atmosphere for families gathered in the town centre.

A heartwarming highlight of the event was the announcement of the winners of the Accrington Stanley Christmas Card Competition.

As part of the club’s Big Shirt Giveaway initiative, which has now provided more than 10,000 shirts to local children, young fans were invited to design their own festive cards.

The four winners, Sasha from Read St John’s, Brogan from St Andrew’s Oswaldtwistle, Isla from Baxenden St John’s and Alessia from Rishton Methodist, were celebrated on stage as their achievements were shared with the thousands in attendance.

After their stage appearance, both teams headed to the Official Accrington Stanley Supporters Trust (OASST) shop in the Arndale, where they held a busy and lively meet and greet. Supporters queued for photos and the chance to receive more free footballs from the players.

Warren Eastham, Accrington Stanley chief executive, said: “It was fantastic for our players to be part of such a brilliant community event. The atmosphere was tremendous and it was wonderful to see so many supporters out enjoying the night.

“Our squad really valued the chance to meet fans and spread some festive cheer. The Christmas card competition was a real highlight too, there were so many incredible entries, and we want to congratulate every child who took part, especially our four outstanding winners.”

OASST Chair Peter Leatham said: “The Arndale was absolutely buzzing. It was amazing to see so many people coming to meet the players, creating a real sense of excitement throughout the evening.

“It was a brilliant night for everyone involved and fantastic to be part of such a vibrant community occasion.”

Headlined by 90s Christmas pop favourites East 17, the event delivered a spectacular start to the festive season in Accrington, bringing the community together for a magical night of celebration.
