One hundred and eighty four new homes, ranging from one-bedroom apartments through to five-bedroom houses, are set for Clitheroe.

Manchester-based Laurus Homes will build the development on Whalley road, promising that more than half will be available at affordable rent rates and shared ownership.

Laurus Homes is a joint venture between Manchester-based Trafford Housing Trust and the London-based L&Q housing association.

It was set-up in 2016 to deliver 2,000 new homes in the NW by 2020, the region with the biggest demand for affordable homes outside of the South East.

The new development aims to fuel economic growth in the region by creating local jobs. As a profit-for-purpose builder, Laurus Homes will invest its profit from the new homes into community projects, including tackling poverty, homelessness, domestic violence and debt problems.

Graeme Scott, development director at Trafford Housing Trust, said: “The North West is experiencing a dreadful housing shortage, with many families, who are working, struggling to make ends meet. "We believe that everyone deserves an affordable, warm and safe roof above their head. We focus on building award-winning homes that make the most of the natural environment, whether these are brand new developments or regeneration projects."
