Euro Garages ranks as UK’s sixth biggest private company

Blackburn-based Euro Garages has been named by the Sunday Times as the sixth biggest privately owned business in the UK.

Published this weekend, the 16th annual Sunday Times HSBC Top Track 100 league table ranks Britain’s 100 private companies with the biggest sales.

Euro Garages registered £3.8bn of sales last year, with profits of £226m.

The rapidly growing forecourt retailer placed 72nd on last year’s list, rising sharply mainly as a result of its merger with European Forecourt Retail last year to form a group with 1,450 locations across Europe. In June this year, the group agreed to acquire another 1,176 service stations in Italy.

The listing places it among high-profile national brands such as Dyson, JCB, Specsavers and Virgin Atlantic.

Dan Howlett, head of corporate banking at HSBC UK, commented: “It’s encouraging to see so many businesses not only thriving in these uncertain times, but achieving a higher growth rate than in 2016.

“Companies like Euro Garages embody the very best of UK entrepreneurialism with their determination to grow, succeed and seek out new opportunities.”
