Yamba UK hosts charity rollercoaster abseil in Blackpool

Trepidation, excitement and exhilaration are just some of the words you would use to describe the experience of abseiling down The Big One, Blackpool's iconic roller-coaster and that's exactly what a long line of participants experienced when they took part in a sponsored abseil for ABF The Soldiers Charity

The annual event, with the abseil and technical support set up and provided by specialist Outdoor Activity Provider Yamba UK, held at the end of May attracted participants from all over the country and is one of many high profile national fund raising activities organised to support ABF The Soldiers Charity.

Yamba UK were first approached to manage the event in 2013 because of their unrivalled knowledge and expertise in this field as well as being conveniently located at Lostock Hall, Preston. Now in their third year of being involved in the event, the team from Yamba UK were responsible for setting up and running the abseil as well as providing all the equipment and advising on technical issues.

Safety was of the utmost importance and on the day of the event Yamba UK had qualified specialists getting participants 'kitted up' in safety harness and helmet prior to making their way to the top. The Yamba UK team provided reassurance to participants about their own personal safety as well as guidance and encouragement to help alleviate any nerves and maximise the enjoyment and sheer exhilaration of the abseil! They were also the first to congratulate the abseilers once they reached firm ground!

This years’ event was a huge success with participants from all backgrounds, including injured ex-servicemen and women, families who have lost loved ones in conflict and members of the general public all taking part in the breath-taking 200ft abseil. The atmosphere on the day event was supercharged and full of emotion and everyone who took part felt an enormous sense of achievement - both for the sponsorship that they raised as well as for the personal achievement of abseiling from such an iconic structure.

Commenting on the event Colonel Philip Naylor OBE, regional director North West from ABF, said: "This is one of our flagship fundraising events, contributing significantly to our income each year and bringing in a great deal of publicity as well. Yamba UK have become firm partners in this event and they provide outstanding professional support and handle the participants extremely well in a safe, confident and calming manner.

"Moreover, they are very adaptable and reactive to the challenges of programming the abseil in a busy amusement park and work well with the local staff. I look forward to continuing the relationship in to the future.”

Yamba UK is one of the country's leading providers of quality outdoor learning programmes with activities ranging from rock climbing to canoeing to sea kayaking to archery. Working extensively in the education sector the company also provides tailored packages for businesses of all shapes and sizes geared to improving morale, productivity and team leadership in the workplace.

With a team of dedicated specialists skilled in all aspects of event and activity management, coordination and delivery the company has developed a reputation for being one of the UK's foremost suppliers and renowned for providing high quality challenging activities delivered in a safe and rewarding environment.
