Work has begun on a new Marks & Spencer development in Colne.
Barnfield Construction has been appointed by Monte Blackburn to deliver the new 24,500 sq ft M&S store on land at Whitewalls Drive, adjacent to the EG On The Move service station near the end of the M65.
The proposed masterplan includes a dedicated supermarket building, customer parking, pedestrian routes and associated landscaping and infrastructure.
With work under way, Barnfield Construction will deliver the scheme on behalf of Monte Blackburn, continuing a long standing relationship between the two Lancashire businesses. Completion of the new store is expected late next year.
Alex Kenwright, development projects director of Monte Blackburn, said: “We are delighted to have reached this important milestone and to see construction commencing on site.
“Securing M&S for the development is fantastic news for Colne and reflects the strength of this location. We’re pleased to be working with Barnfield Construction to deliver the scheme and look forward to welcoming M&S to the town.”
Tim Webber MBE, chairman and managing director of Barnfield Construction, said: “This is an important gateway site in a fantastic location at the end of the M65, and the arrival of M&S represents a significant investment in the area.
“We’re delighted to once again be working with Monte Blackburn and look forward to seeing the development take shape over the coming months.”
