Work lounge to help young Blackburn businesses

A new collaborative workspace is set to open in Blackburn, allowing entrepreneurs, home-workers and freelancers the opportunity to network and share ideas with other local businesspeople.

Bizspace Blackburn Work Lounge 2The Work Lounge will be based at Glenfield Park Business Centre on Blakewater Road, which is owned by Bizspace.

The bright and modern space offers six desks in a shared office environment that can be hired on an hourly, daily or monthly basis.

Business centre manager at Glenfield Park, Julie McNulty, said The Work Lounge would bring new opportunities for young businesses in the area.

“Blackburn is a hub for business talent, entrepreneurs and start-up companies and the new Work Lounge will allow people who’d normally work in isolation to network, share ideas and thrive in a creative environment,” she said.

“Just recently a report showed Lancashire was one of the UK’s second biggest hotspot for small online retailers, many of which are run by ‘homepreneurs’.

“We understand that the costs for a professional workspace can be a barrier to young businesses, but at the same time it is important to be taken seriously and to avoid the disadvantages of working alone. The Work Lounge is designed to be a first step on the ladder and an exciting and inspiring place to work.”

There will be a drop-in open day at The Work Lounge on Monday 15th June, from 10 am to 4 pm, where people can have a tour of the premises and find out more.

Prices start at £3 per hour and include the use of exclusive meeting rooms, tea and coffee making facilities and free on-site car parking.

Bizspace’s sales and marketing director, Emma Long, commented: “Collaborative working has been shown to help overcome some of the problems which can be suffered by home workers, such as reduced social contact, loneliness, lack of self-esteem and lack of motivation. "Not only can people benefit from meeting potentially valuable new business contacts, but being around others can help get those creative juices flowing. We hope the opening of our new Work Lounge will help Blackburn’s start-up business community thrive.”
