Lancashire housewares manufacturer and exporter, What More UK, have a long standing tradition of giving back to local charities, to support the communities in which they operate. What More UK is one of the largest and houseware manufacturers in the UK. It’s the organisation behind the popular brand Wham, available in every major UK supermarket and a further 1600 independent retailers.

This year, twenty strong Team Wham have pledged to take on the tough Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for charity. The team are colleagues from various departments right across the organisation, from toolmaking, warehouse, picking, sales – including Operations Director Garry Ireland.

The challenge involves walking 25 miles up three mountains - in just 12 hours. This includes Pen-y-ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Such a tough challenge involves preparation and training, and Team Wham have been completing various challenges before the main event. This has included walking the Huncoat Trail, 8 to 10 miles through the local area. The team have also scaled Pendle Hill several times, looking to build their fitness levels and speed.

The big event, on 21st August 2021, has the aim of raising £10,000 for the Accrington Stanley Community Trust. It’s a charity local to What More UK Ltd, and they do great work for the local community in 4 key themed areas: Sports Participation, Education, Health & Wellbeing and Social Inclusion. They help people to develop and achieve the best they can in life.

Garry Ireland, operations director, said: “One reason for taking on the challenge was to lift morale within the various teams. It has been a tough 16 months for everyone, and taking part in the challenge, and the pre-challenge training has enabled everyone to meet outside and get fit whilst participating. And it’s a great local cause!”

Company director Tony Grimshaw OBE, added: “I’m delighted the team have taken this on to support such an important cause. It has also encouraged the teams at What More UK Ltd to engage with each other outside their own departments and build a stronger team. The site at Altham is very large, and as such we don’t always have the opportunity to meet with those outside our work area. I will be cheering them on!”

What More UK manufactures storage boxes and housewares of all kinds including bakeware, around-the-sink items, products for the home laundry, utility room, and items for the garden such as planters and troughs. What More’s products are all made in East Lancashire and are sold in 76 countries around the world. More can be seen on their website here: www.whatmoreuk.com

Team Wham appreciate every donation in their £10,000 quest, and if you would like to show your support to the team, please take a look at their JustGiving page https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/teamwham?utm_term=wVYnzn8Pd
