What can businesses do instead of their annual Christmas party?

At the end of a very unusual year, the festive period is here and businesses have to cancel their traditional Christmas celebrations. However, there are many alternatives for the annual seasonal parties, and it is very important that companies invest in the idea of planning other ways of getting all of their employees involved. Surveys show that 74% of employees are motivated to work harder if their employer embraces the festive period. This is due to the positive effects the office holiday event can have on staff, for example, boosting morale and gratitude, as well as improving relationships with colleagues.

Celebrating Christmas with employees is especially needed this year after all the unfortunate events that 2020 has brought for the whole world. Inviting staff members to an exciting company occasion can increase motivation and result in them feeling more valued. Holding an event is a great way to recognise all the hard work your employees have been putting in this year, despite the unprecedented events that have occurred. So, with all the government guidelines and Covid-19 regulations in mind, it is time to get the creative boots on!

Consider hosting a virtual Christmas party. Zoom has been our best friend during the pandemic, so why not host a party over video call? This can include gathering for drinks and presenting a quiz. Perhaps create a competition for best Christmas sweater or living room decorations. This is a cost effective and convenient idea for an alternative and safe celebration.

Other plans can include running the traditional ‘Secret Santa’ activity; however, employees can send gifts directly to their co-worker’s doorstep via post after some online shopping. Additionally, you could hold a baking contest for the most imaginative gingerbread house. It is essential to reward staff this love-filled period after a very tough year so if time is running short, consider sending a little treat and card to their door as a thank you.

All in all, your staff deserve a stress-free break. These ideas are the perfect opportunity to maintain employee loyalty and retention. By engaging with one another, this will cultivate genuine bonds and enhance team spirits after having time apart when working remotely. Workers are an invaluable asset to the business and should be treated to a nice virtual Christmas party or activity this festive season!
