Burnley-based PVCu manufacturer VEKA plc has donated £8,000 to the Burnley Together Christmas Gift Appeal to help address an unexpected shortage of toys.
With stock for certain age groups running dangerously low in the gift appeal, organisers called for support from the local community to ensure that everyone was provided for.
VEKA’s staff rallied behind the cause, with the donation ensuring that children supported through the appeal – from newborns to 18-year-olds – will receive a present on Christmas Day.
The £8,000 donated by VEKA helped the gift appeal to purchase gifts and place two large orders with wholesale toy company Muddleit, to provide for the approximate 1,000 local children supported by the appeal.
Jessica Cooper, VEKA’s marketing director, said: “We are immensely proud of our Burnley roots, so we have a real emotional tie to this appeal.
"We are delighted to be able to support Burnley Together and the amazing work they do, and to play even a small part in ensuring local children and families feel supported at Christmas.”
VEKA’s Christmas fundraising is a cornerstone of the company’s festive activities and has supported the Burnley Together Christmas Gift Appeal for several years, most recently donating to the cause in 2024.
Ella Roberts, who leads the Burnley Together Christmas Gift Appeal, said: “At the start of the week, we were really worried.
"Stock was dwindling, and we never want to see a child miss out. The community responded immediately, and we can’t thank people and local businesses like VEKA enough. Every contribution helps families who are finding things difficult this year.”
This year’s Christmas Gift Appeal is now closed, but anyone who still wishes to donate toys or gifts can do so for in support of next year’s appeal by contacting Burnley Together, who will safely store items until the 2026 appeal begins.
