TrakRap wins innovation award

Skelmersdale-based TrakRap has won the award for Best Manufacturing Technology at the World Food Innovation Awards.

The judges were impressed by the TrakRap Packaging System, a combination of its environmentally friendly packaging machine and innovative pack designs that provide cost effective secondary packaging solutions for food and drink manufacturers.

The Industry-4.0 enabled system completely eliminates the use of heat from the packaging process using an ultra-thin stretch film to ‘cold wrap’ products instead, reducing energy usage by as much as 90 per cent and plastic usage and greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 70 per cent.

The awards attracted entries from 20 countries across its 28 categories, with TrakRap winning its category against competitors from France, the United States and China.

Martin Leeming, CEO of TrakRap, said: “We’re over the moon to have scooped our first award of 2020 and particularly happy that it is a World Food Innovation Award, one of the most sought-after prizes the food and drink industry has to offer.

Receiving international recognition is something we could only have dreamed of a few years ago.

"Receiving international recognition for our packaging System and the benefits it delivers is something we could only have dreamed of a few years ago. If food manufacturers are serious about reducing the amount of packaging they use and minimising their carbon footprint, they need to adopt new eco-innovations to help fight climate change as a matter of urgency."
