Blackburn-based Training for Counsellors are highlighting the transformative power of listening skills, underlining their value not only for therapeutic counsellors but for professionals and individuals in all walks of life.
Training for Counsellors deliver accredited counselling courses and CPD training from introductory to diploma level and are encouraging more people to consider the impact of truly listening, with empathy, awareness and care.
Owner Samantha Crapnell said: “I believe effective listening is one of the most valuable things you can learn. Whether you’re just beginning your counselling journey or simply want to improve how you relate to the people around you, you will always find it beneficial.”
One organisation to have recently benefitted from Training for Counsellors’ Introduction to Counselling: Listening Skills course, was Blackburn with Darwen (BwD) Careers Service.
Sam Morris, CEO of BwD Carers Service, said: “There were six staff members participating in the course.
"They were enthusiastic and provided feedback after each session, commenting that the course was interactive, thought-provoking, and easy to apply in their daily lives, both personally and professionally.
"I can see their new awareness and understanding of the benefits of effective listening in their everyday work.”
Training for Counsellors have explained that listening goes beyond simply hearing someone’s words.
It involves presence, attention to body language, tone of voice, and understanding the unspoken, all of which form the foundation of active listening, a core skill for therapeutic work and beyond.
Samantha said: “We often hear from participants of our listening skills course who tell us how the skills they have learnt have helped not just in sessions, but at home and at work. Teachers, parents, managers, nurses, volunteers, people in all sorts of roles benefit from being good listeners.
The Introduction to Counselling: Listening Skills course focuses on key principles, including active listening, empathy, and self-awareness. These skills are designed to give participants practical tools for both people facing careers and their personal lives.
