Tomorrow's workforce fuelled by award-winning collaboration

Winners of the ‘Best Provider & Employer Collaboration Award’ at the 2021 UK Nuclear Skills Awards

Lancashire Energy HQ recently won the ‘Best Provider & Employer Collaboration Award’ for their Nuclear Degree Apprenticeship programme at the 2021 UK Nuclear Skills Awards.

The team had some very prestigious companies as competition, but the panel recognised the partnership work that the team have achieved in the development of their Nuclear Degree Apprenticeship programme in collaboration with BAE Systems, the Office for Nuclear Regulation, Westinghouse Springfield Fuels and also North West Projects.

On top of this fantastic accomplishment, one of our students also won the ‘Advanced Apprentice of the Year Award’ at the event. Kane Porter, who is studying BEng (Hons) has beat tough competition from across the UK to secure this win. Kane works at Westinghouse Springfield Fuels and has been with us from apprenticeship through to degree study.

What we offer

Developed by Blackpool and The Fylde College and co-funded by the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership, the £12m Lancashire Energy HQ facility opened in September 2017 at the newly formed Enterprise Zone at Blackpool Airport.

Offering a growing portfolio of courses for people aged 16 and upwards who want to develop their careers in the engineering and energy industry, our aim is to deliver the next generation of engineers and technicians through rigorous training and apprenticeship schemes.

Our purpose-built facility boasts the latest engineering technology and equipment, as well as expert staff who have strong industry backgrounds and current knowledge of their sectors.

Workshops are spacious and flexible, designed to cater for large pieces of equipment or machinery so students are able to train on the industry-standard equipment they will use in the workplace.

The campus includes the sector’s largest energy simulator incorporating nuclear and renewable energy; three large engineering technology workshops; a materials engineering laboratory; a purpose-built welding facility and a learning resource centre equipped with a comprehensive suite of design software.

All of our engineering degree apprenticeship schemes have been designed alongside

industry and are run in collaboration with our companies. We offer a blended approach to learning with a combination of online live interactive study and some practical on site application, as a result of this flexible approach we have apprentices from all over the country on our courses. All our Degree programmes are validated by Lancaster University, a top 10 university*.
