Red skates, skating on ice

The people of Burnley and beyond now have the chance to glide into Christmas after tickets went on sale for the town’s synthetic Ice Rink.

Set to be located on St James’s Street by Wilko from Saturday 17th – Friday 23rd December, it will be open from 10am-4pm each day offering families and friends the chance to enjoy some frozen fun in the week leading up to Christmas Day.

Tickets, which cost £5, can be bought online via the Burnley Mechanics Theatre website, by phone or in person at the theatre’s box office and sales have been swift so far.

Skates will be provided for all attendees and each session will last 30 minutes.

This year’s rink is kindly being sponsored by Burnley Leisure, Burnley Pantomime Society, Holiday Inn Express Burnley, Anchor Group Services and Birchall Foodservice.

You can buy tickets here: https://discoverburnley.co.uk/burnley-ice-rink/.

The activity will provide the finale to the town’s Christmas celebrations which began with the Lights Switch-On in November and have continued with a range of events including a Christmas Artisan Market, Burnley College’s Winter Wonderland, performers and characters at Charter Walk and a number of yuletide activities at Burnley Markets.

Burnley Business Improvement District (BID) project manager Andrew Dean is looking forward to the opening of the Ice Rink and hopes people combine a skate with a trip to the town’s businesses for some Christmas shopping and a winter warmer or two.

“This year’s Ice Rink provides the perfect opportunity for people to have some festive fun and get into the Christmas spirit with their friends and loved ones while hopefully supporting our local traders at the same time,” said Andrew.

“Why not come and have a skate before heading for a drink or bite to eat or maybe sort the last of the Christmas shopping before taking to the ice? Our businesses would love to see you this Christmas and there’s never been a more important time to support local.”
