This Halloween, audiences are invited to step into the shadows with new author Heath Groves, who will present a special live reading from his debut gothic thriller The Silence We Hide.
The exclusive reading, recorded live on the staircase of the Grade II listed Moorside House in Altham, Accrington, will premiere at 7pm on Friday 31st October on The Series Of Silence Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/SeriesOfSilence
The chilling extract, taken from page 13, chapter three, concludes with the haunting line: “Six paces. Less than a breath.” The moment captures the suspenseful and unsettling tone of Groves’ writing, a perfect fit for Halloween night.
The Silence We Hide draws inspiration from Moorside House itself, the former home of Lydia Becker, a leading figure in the early British suffrage movement.
With over two centuries of history echoing through its halls, the house provides a rich and eerie backdrop for Groves’ story, which intertwines past and present in a darkly atmospheric narrative.
The novel marks the beginning of Groves’ ambitious “trilogy of trilogies,” titled The Series Of Silence. Spanning three families across three centuries, all bound by one mysterious house, the series combines gothic suspense, psychological depth and domestic noir.
Released on 4th October, the book has already been described as Sharp Objects meets The Haunting of Hill House, appealing to readers who love tension, secrets and stories steeped in place and memory.
Heath Groves said: “The response to The Silence We Hide has been incredible, readers have really connected with the atmosphere and the secrets that linger within Moorside House.
”Recording the Halloween reading there felt like the story was finally coming home. It’s the perfect setting to share this moment with everyone.”
The Silence We Hide is available now via Amazon at www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1919224513. The second and third instalments in The Series Of Silence are already available for pre-order, with release dates set for December 4th 2025, and March 4th 2026.
