A youth rugby team is starting the season in style after a leading firm of accountants and business advisers agreed to sponsor their new kit.

Rossendale Rugby Club’s under 15s team was given the new strip by Haslingden based Cassons, which already sponsors the club's under 12s squad.

The team, which is based at the Rossendale Sports Club at Marl Pits in Rawtenstall received new shirts, shorts and socks ahead of their first home match of the season, a friendly against Fleetwood, which saw them score a triumphant 29 – 0 win against the away team.

Paul Kilshaw, U15s coach and vice chair at Rossendale Rugby Club said: “It’s great to see the boys all turned out in their new kit. Rugby gear can take a lot of punishment over the course of a season, especially from our youth teams, so we were over the moon when Cassons stepped in and agreed to help us out with new shirts and shorts. Now we just have to go out there and do them proud!”

Les Nutter, managing partner at Cassons, said: “We’re delighted to be able to sponsor a great local rugby team. Cassons have worked closely with Rossendale Rugby Club for a number of years, sponsoring kit and training tops for their under 12s squad, so we’re thrilled to be able to support the under 15s team as well. “We are very proud to be based in Rossendale and lots of our staff are big rugby fans. We know it can be tough for local youth clubs to afford the kit and equipment they need, so to see the team out on the pitch in their new strip fills us with pride”.
