Record breaking quiz night

Taylor Patterson held its 9th Annual Charity quiz night on November 12, raising a record breaking total of £4,500 for The Foxton Centre.

The quiz night was held at the Masonic Hall in Preston and was attended by over 160 members of the local business community showing tremendous support for the organisation. The amount raised was not only due to the generosity of those taking part but also due to the kind offer of match funding from the Barclays team in Preston.

On the night the 42 quiz teams were tested on a variety of subjects, including general knowledge, current affairs, Strictly Come Dancing, and types of fruit! The evening also included a raffle with prizes donated by Taylor Patterson clients, professional introducers and suppliers.

Financial planning consultant at Taylor Patterson, Stephen Jackson, along with his team 'Where’s Neil?' were delighted to claim the winners trophy for the second year on the run, with the wooden spoon trophy going to The Foxton Centre team, 'The Foxton Twits'.

Director, Gillian Bardin who led the Taylor Patterson Charity Committee in organising this year’s event, said: “The evening was great fun with lots of healthy competition and a few controversial questions. We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended this year’s event as their generosity resulted in the record breaking total being raised for such a worthy charity.”

The Foxton Centre aims to work with the most marginalised communities in Preston to provide them with opportunities to flourish. The centre has helped support rough sleepers, people with alcohol abuse issues and others in the community who need support, for over 40 years.

Jeff Marsh, chief executive officer at The Foxton Centre commented: "It was a fun event to be part of and we were proud to participate even if we didn’t do too well in the quiz; whichever way you look at it, the Foxton Centre were winners on the night.

"I would like to thank everyone for the time, effort and energy people from local businesses put into the evening, the organisation of the venue, the raffle and the preparation of the quiz itself a top job done by everyone. It really did show the community in Preston coming together to look after its own people.

"On a serious note this much needed funding will allow us to carry on our work with the vulnerable people who use the Foxton. Some of the money we intend to put to the 'Off The Street Fund' which was established last year with the specific aim of helping people entrenched in rough sleeping to leave the streets, the rest will go support the other services that we offer.” To find out more about the work of The Foxton Centre visit www.thefoxtoncentre.co.uk
