The six participants in the inaugural scheme completed a four-month course designed to enhance their management skills and establish a consistent set of behaviours and standards across the organisation.

The course, developed and delivered in partnership with an external consultant, included four-days of intensive off-site training. It encouraged the participants, through a mix of theory and practical exercises, to understand the process of management and how to become a more effective manager, both of themselves and their teams.

The programme covered topics such as recruitment, performance management and professional development. A two-month gap between the off-site days gave the participants time to apply the theories and practices within the work environment before returning for the second session. As well as taking the opportunity to reflect on and share their experiences following the first session, the group also explored the additional topics of building effective teams, time management and the achievement of a healthy work/life balance.

The course included managers from each of the different departments within Pure AV and comprised members of the Senior Leadership Team, as well as those entering line management for the first time.

The mix of views and knowledge within the group, adding to the quality and depth of the learning experience for all involved, as marketing manager, Erica Whittle reflected: “It was interesting to see and hear the different interpretations of the course content; I think everyone, no matter how long in a management role found something of value to take away from the programme. Working through the course together has also made us much more cohesive as a management team."

The Management Development Programme is a first for Pure AV, and a reflection of the ongoing successful growth of the company as managing director, Peter Sutton explains: “The business has grown substantially over the past 18 months, and we want to make sure that we are investing in our people to equip them with the right skills to help them grow and develop alongside the business.

"The programme is the first step in an ongoing process. It is about creating a structure from which we can expand and cultivate great practice. We made a commitment to our staff at last year’s 15th-anniversary celebrations to be the best company that we can be and investing in our people to provide the opportunity for progression, and personal development is a core part of delivering on those promises and in ensuring a prosperous future for the company."
