Pupils from Lathom Park Primary School on Hall Lane were treated to a taste of life on a busy building site when they visited Bellway Homes’ Lathom Pastures development on Firswood Road.

The informative and educational visit was undertaken by groups from both the infants and juniors along with a number of school teachers and comprised a health and safety-focussed introduction to the residential development that is taking place at Lathom Pastures.  It also included an overview of the different job roles and processes that are needed for the construction of the new homes.

Accompanied by Bellway’s assistant site manager Anthony Doyle, the children were then invited to don hard hats and high visibility vests and walk to the perimeter of the building site where they could see the different tradesmen and bigger pieces of machinery in action.

Along the way, Anthony stressed the importance of health and safety, highlighting the many dangers that the children would face if they strayed onto a working construction site, and gave the children plenty of opportunity to ask everything they had ever wanted to know about housebuilding.

He concluded by giving them the chance to try their hands at the art of bricklaying; by applying mortar to building bricks and stacking them together to create a small wall.

Headteacher at Lathom Park Primary School, Mrs Carol McIIwain, commented: “The visit to Lathom Pastures was a super experience for the children as they were able to gain an appreciation of the build process and see a number of different careers in action.  It was also very useful to highlight the many hazards on working developments, especially as this one is so close to our school.  We are very grateful to Bellway for facilitating this for us and I’m sure the children will talk about it for many months to come.”

Assistant site manager at Bellway Homes, Anthony Doyle, added: “It was a pleasure to welcome the group to Lathom Pastures; the children were very well behaved and showed a real interest in the development taking place. I hope we’ve inspired some of them to consider construction as a future career once they leave school.”

Lathom Pastures is an attractive new residential development of three and four bedroom homes in a great location just a short distance from the market town of Ormskirk, with its superb selection of everyday amenities, leisure facilities and cultural attractions, and not far from the beautiful rolling Lancashire countryside.

Prices start from £221,995.  For further information, please call 07580 372 055, email lathompastures@bellway.co.uk or pop into the sales office that is open 10am until 5pm Monday and Friday, 10am until 7pm on Thursday and 11am until 5pm Saturday and Sunday.
