Optical group one of best managed in UK

A company with almost 600 opticians and hearing practices across the UK, Ireland and Channel Islands has featured in Deloitte's UK Best Managed Companies 2026 awards.

Darwen headquartered Hakim Group, based at India Mill, employs more than 300 people across its family of independent practices.

The group was announced as one of this year’s winners in Deloitte’s UK Best Managed Companies awards, a programme that recognises excellence in privately owned companies, looking in particular at organisational success and contributions to their industry and the economy.

Hakim Group was established by Imran Hakim, who set up his first practice Hakim Opticians, in Bolton in 2002, using a £2,000 loan from his father. A year later, Imran made his first acquisition, Bussin Opticians in Failsworth, Greater Manchester, which paved the way for the establishment of Hakim Group in 2006 as his portfolio of independent opticians continued to grow across the north of England.

The company relocated to Darwen in 2011 and, by 2018, Hakim Group’s portfolio had surpassed 100 practices.  

Hakim Group has previously been named as one of The Sunday Times Best Places to Work in 2024 and 2018 and won the Mosaic Award for Science and Technology from HRH Prince of Wales, now HM King Charles III.
