Nine Lancashire companies ranked as best places to work

The Sunday Times has listed nine Lancashire employers across three lists of the UK's best places to work.

BC LOGOS RGBNow in its 17th year, The Sunday Times awards, described as ‘the most comprehensive guide to workplace engagement in Britain’, celebrated the UK’s leading companies at a ceremony in London.

The awards rely directly on employee feedback. Employees from all competing firms are asked to anonymously answer questions about management practices, career progression, workplace culture, job satisfaction, relationships with their colleagues and their working environment.

In the list of the 100 best small companies, Darwen-based Hakim Group opticians, which employs 61, ranked highest at number 30.

Three Preston firms also made the list: Harrison Drury Solicitors placed 37th, IT Works Resource Group placed 63rd and Profile Financial ranked 93rd.

On a second list, honouring companies with between 250 and 3,000 employees, Todmorden-based Robinwood Activity centre, which has a workforce of 256, ranked 11th in the UK. Blackpool-based Beaverbrooks the Jewellers placed 26th in its 14th consecutive year on the list, and Southport's Fletchers Solicitors ranked 85th. A third list, which recognised the top 30 not-for-profit-organisations, scored Preston's Community Gateway housing association at number 10, and Burnley's Calico Group, a social housing specialist, at number 18.
