New owner for Nublue

Lancaster-based ecommerce expert Nublue has been acquired by a Manchester digital agency.

CTI Digital has paid an undisclosed sum for the business and completed the deal this month after six months of negotiations. It says the move is part of its growth strategy.

Tom Ashworth, technical director at Nublue, said of the deal: “Nublue is experiencing strong growth in the ecommerce space.

“Joining the CTI family at this time couldn't be more exciting and will significantly enhance the service we offer to our clients.”

In a statement announcing the acquisition CTI Digital said: “Having Nublue onboard will help increase our capacity and availability to partner with pan-European clients and offer increasingly specialised services.

“We believe that by bringing our organisations together, we can create a more comprehensive and specialist service offering for all of our ecommerce clients.”

It added: “CTI Digital will allow Nublue to keep pace with emerging ecommerce markets by diversifying existing services and taking on new technologies.”

And CTI chief executive Nick Rhind said: “Collectively, we have a host of exciting projects ahead and this announcement is just the start.”

By bringing our organisations together, we can create a more comprehensive and specialist service offering.

The companies will continue with separate brand identities and Nublue will remain at its Lancaster base. It will, however, merge its Manchester office into CTI Digital's.

The combined operation is forecast to have a turnover of £8m in 2019 and 150 staff.

The organisations will maintain their current structure with all senior management retaining their current positions.

NuBlue began life in 2005. It was founded in Lancaster by brothers Michael and Tom Ashworth. The business opened its Manchester office last year. It has specialised in Magento since 2008.
