A local housing developer is building on its promise to prioritise the engagement of a local supply chain by announcing a recently acquired site which will make way for nine new luxury homes.

Conlon Living – the housebuilding arm of Conlon Construction – will deliver a bespoke development of four- and five-bedroom high specification detached homes at Haighlands, Hollins Lane in Forton, to mirror the Preston, South Ribble and Lancashire City Deal’s housebuilding ambitions.

The site in Forton has been specially selected given its proximity to Lancaster University, which is eagerly progressing its 2017 - 2027 masterplan expansion. The phased expansion will bring recruitment opportunities, with the Forton development earmarked as potential new housing for professionals moving to the area.

Since the City Deal was announced, Conlon Living has emerged as one of a handful of local developers working to meet the target of 17,000 new homes by delivering smaller, high quality developments in line with the changing needs of families living in and wanting to relocate to Lancashire.

For each of its developments, Conlon Living only utilises a local supply chain, sourcing materials and labour from within the region to ensure the economic benefits of the City Deal stay within Lancashire.

Justin Sheil, land & planning director at Conlon Living, said: “Our most recent site acquisition at Hollins Lane in Forton will make way for a development of houses that will be of exceptional specification in a beautiful, rural location for buyers to really feel that they are in the heart of Lancashire and all that it offers.

“We have made a conscious decision to buck the trend emerging from the City Deal; the majority of developments in Lancashire are being built by national players, which may benefit the county in the short-term, but they are solely focused on profit and volume. Instead, we are delivering small scale, high demand developments at an excellent level of quality, using local skills and materials.

“With this development, and any others we venture towards, we will continue to champion the craftsmanship, skills and products that are readily available on our doorstep. Doing so enhances what we can deliver and adds sustainability to the area as well as our developments. We encourage other developers – local, national, large or small – to do the same.”
