Nelson Town Council is inviting families to get involved in a fun and engaging activity at this year’s Nelson Food & Drink Festival with the launch of a special #ShopLocal trail competition for children.
The competition is aimed at under-12s and will run during the festival on Saturday 6th September, from 10am to 4pm. Competition booklets are being distributed to primary schools and nurseries across Nelson and the surrounding area, encouraging children and their families to explore the town centre and support local businesses.
To take part, children must visit six participating shops on the day of the festival to collect stamps. Once complete, their stamped booklets can be handed in to the main event gazebo for a chance to win some exciting prizes.
First prize is a £50 voucher for Your Girl Can Bake, second prize is a £30 voucher for Brunch Corner, and third prize is a £20 voucher for Mansha Sweet Centre. The shops involved in the trail include Mansha Sweet Centre, Brunch Corner, Phoenix Health, Your Girl Can Bake, The Pearl Retreat, and Dels Hair.
Coun Sughra Bibi, chair of Nelson Town Council, said: “We’re really excited to involve local schools and young families in this year’s festival. The #ShopLocal trail is a fun and interactive way for children to engage with the town centre, while supporting independent businesses that are the heart of our community.”
The Nelson Food & Drink Festival is a free-to-attend event featuring live cooking demonstrations from TikTok star and bestselling cookbook author Zaynah Din, a wide range of food and drink stalls, and entertainment for all ages.
