A National Highways Regional Operations Centre (ROC) has been upgraded with the latest Lucidity video wall controllers and software from Burnley-based Ultimate Visual Solutions.

National Highways operates seven Regional Operations Centres across the country, each monitoring traffic 24/7.

At the Yorkshire and North East ROC in Wakefield, operators rely on multiple large displays to track live traffic feeds, respond to incidents and maintain safe, reliable journeys for road users.

Ultimate Visual Solutions (UVS) worked alongside system integration partner Electrosonic to deliver a modern visual operations environment focused entirely on operator needs.

The control room now features three Sharp/NEC 2×4 LCD videowalls, all driven by a Lucidity videowall server, as well as a 98‑inch MultiSync display in the centre’s conference and coordination room.

Lucidity continues to be a popular choice for demanding control‑room environments. Its expanded range of controllers now offers increased processing power and enhanced flexibility.

For this project, UVS developed custom API translation tools and added specific API features to meet National Highways’ operational requirements.

The upgraded environment now acts as the nerve centre of regional operations. Operators receive real-time feeds from the area’s motorways and major roads and can zoom into specific locations.

Phill Whitehead, UVS technical director, said: “A collaborative approach to understand and define key custom developments helped simplify a seamless migration from the existing solution to a new Lucidity framework. Multiple developments have been made against Lucidity, including API translation tools and specific API functionality.

“These developments help facilitate the strict requirements, which no other manufacturer on the market was able to provide straight out-of-the-box.”

Matt Cruse, an account manager for Electrosonic said: “Three 2x4 NEC LCD videowalls driven by a UVS videowall server display content from multiple live feeds.

"The close collaboration between Electrosonic, Sharp/NEC, UVS, architects and building contractors enabled a seamless, consistent approach to the project.

UVS, based in the Burnley First – Burnley Business Centre, is led by four senior colleagues who, between them, have more than 90 years’ combined Audio Visual, Control Room and Visual Solutions experience. For further information on UVS Lucidity Inside go here or telephone 01282 606525.
