Leading North West law firm Napthens has advised on a three-year collaboration between MK Experience and leading conservation charity the Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) to deliver Illuminature, a unique outdoor light trail at the WWT London Wetland Centre.

The partnership will see delivery of an immersive art experience after-dark, as Illuminature provides friends and families with the chance to see the habitats of wetland creatures in a new light. Interactive installations and larger-than-life light sculptures of otters, herons, kingfishers and more featured along the routes.

Napthens assisted MK Experience and WWT in arranging the collaboration that is set to attract tens of thousands of visitors to the London Wetland Centre, helping to support the work of the charity.

Based in Blackburn, MK Experience is part of the MK Illumination Group, specialising in production of light-based events and experiences, including ‘Lumagica’ brand light trails. MK Illumination are well-known for delivering decorative and festive lighting solutions to a wide range of clients around the world, from seasonal displays to year-round shows for public spaces, shopping centres, corporate businesses, amusement parks, festivals, airports, tourist attractions and much more.

With sites across country, including Martin Mere Wetland Centre in Lancashire, WWT is the UK’s leading wetland conservation charity and has been set up to create, restore and manage wetlands for wildlife and communities in the UK and around the world. As one of the world’s most threatened habitats, the charity looks to demonstrate their value and inspire people to take action in protecting them for future generations. Founded 75 years ago, the trust hosts one million visitors every year to its 10 unique wetland centres around the UK.

Claire Hynes, commercial solicitor at Napthens, said: “MK Illumination Group is a pioneering business here in the North West that has delivered light shows for businesses from rural Lancashire to central Dubai, stunning spectators with the visuals it is capable of producing. We’re pleased to have advised on this new deal, that will deliver a stunning light show to wildlife enthusiasts and families. I can’t wait to take my family to visit this unique show!”

Adele Hodson at MK Experience said: “Napthens has been a delight to work with in helping us deliver this new partnership with WWT and we are really excited to deliver these spectacular light trails. Working on lightshows of this scale is the dream scenario and we can’t wait to see how it all comes together.”

Lisa Woodward, centre manager at London Wetland Centre said: “Illuminature is the first event of its kind WWT, in partnership with Lumagica and MK Experience, has run. We are really excited to be able to showcase our amazing wetland wildlife in a totally new way to visitors - new and old - through this experience.  We hope the trail creates a real buzz and encourages people to want to learn more about the amazing wetlands and animals we have here on our reserve. It’s fantastic that while people are having fun they can also feel good about supporting conservation”.
