A brand-new craft gin has been unveiled to accompany the debut instalment of a gothic thriller series and the first novel, The Silence We Hide, based upon the historic Moorside House in Altham, Accrington.

Moorside Craft Gin, handcrafted and distilled in Lancashire, offers a deliciously smooth London dry profile with juniper, bright citrus from grapefruit, orange and lemon, and a lingering finish of liquorice and warm cinnamon spice.

Developed in collaboration with Brindle Distillery, this artisanal spirit is made using pure spring water at Holmes Farm in the historic village of Brindle. Legend has it that the gin is made using water that has been there since time began.

The distillery prides itself on using high-quality, locally grown and sourced ingredients, with the natural spring playing a central role in the distillation process and cooling the still.

Moorside Craft Gin was officially launched at Brindle Distillery on Saturday 25th October, with people receiving copies of The Silence We Hide and bottles of the gin, while a special book signing also took place with co-authors Heath and Kelly-Ann Groves.

When pioneering suffragette Lydia Becker lived at Moorside House, she hand-painted chrysanthemums onto one of the doors, a subtle tribute to her passion for botany and her appreciation of nature’s expressive detail.

Lydia studied botany and astronomy and won a gold medal in 1862 for a scholarly paper on horticulture. She corresponded with Charles Darwin and was one of several 19th-century women who contributed to Darwin’s scientific work.

Today, Moorside House stands as the home of The Series Of Silence and Moorside Craft Gin, uniting literature, heritage and craftsmanship.

In honour of Lydia Becker’s legacy, Moorside Craft Gin can be served with a touch of chrysanthemum, a nod to the botanicals she loved and to the spirit of creativity that the house continues to inspire.

Moorside Craft Gin is now available to purchase on the Moorside House website: http://www.moorsidehouse.com/

The gothic psychological thriller spans three centuries and three intertwined families, all bound by the secrets of one historic house… Moorside House.

In addition to producing world-class spirits including the award-winning Cuckoo Gin, Brindle Distillery is home to The Nest, a vibrant distillery bar hosting an array of fantastic events including The Cuckoo’s Nest Bar, live music performances, and serving up delicious food.

Heath Groves, author of The Series Of Silence, said: "Moorside Craft Gin isn’t just a drink, it’s part of the atmosphere of the story. Its distinctive character and rich heritage make it a superb complement to the book, perfect for enjoying as the tension of the tale unfolds."

Mark Long, director and master distiller at Brindle Distillery, said: "This project has been immensely exciting for us.

"The combination of storytelling and craftsmanship is a natural fit, and creating a gin that carries the same depth, intrigue and authenticity as the book has been a truly rewarding experience."

The Singleton family’s deep-rooted connection to Holmes Farm dates back generations, with decades spent farming its surrounding fields.

In 2017, they saw an opportunity to expand their passion for quality produce by founding Brindle Distillery, the home of Cuckoo Gin. Since then, they have remained committed to crafting sustainable, handcrafted spirits that celebrate Lancashire’s natural bounty.
