Local accountancy and business advisory firm Moore and Smalley has signed up to support this year’s Southport Comedy Festival.

Moore and Smalley has agreed to become one of the sponsors for the annual event which will take place between October 15-25 at venues across the town.

Comedians signed up for the festival this year include big names such as Rob Beckett, Sean Kelly, Fred MacAulay, Joe Lycett and Jason Byrne.

James Treadwell, partner at Moore and Smalley’s Southport office, said: “People don’t automatically think of accountants when they think of comedy, but we’ve all got a funny bone and we’re looking forward to laughs galore at the Southport Comedy Festival.”

Brendan Riley, comedian and organiser of the Southport Comedy Festival, added: “In 2011 funding was pulled for the festival so we now rely on the support and generosity of local businesses such as Moore and Smalley to keep running.

“It’s great that the firm has extended a hand to help bring comedy to local people and I hope to see them as sponsors for many more years to come.”

Headline acts from across the world of comedy made the 2014 Southport Comedy Festival a fantastic success. The comedy greats featured in 2014 included Sean Hughes, Paul Sinha, Jason Cook, Paul Tonkinson, Zoe Lyons, Jason Byrne, Adam Staunton, Steve Royle, John Harding, Tony Law, Peter Antoniou, Jamie Sutherland, Tom Wrigglesworth, Dave Twentyman, Robin Ince, Rob Rouse, Benny Boot and Tom Binns.
