Staff at Preston-based financial advisory firm Moore and Smalley pedalled 259 miles to raise money for a national children’s charity.

In its own take on the Tour de France, Le Tour de Smalley saw 49 Moore and Smalley staff cycle a virtual route at its Preston headquarters, covering the distance between the firm’s six offices and raising £2,212 for Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

Cheered on by colleagues and clients, the team smashed their 185 mile target - the distance between its northernmost office in Kendal and its southernmost base in Nottingham.

Graham Gordon, managing partner at Moore and Smalley, said: “The work of Ronald McDonald House Charities is fantastic. A number of Moore and Smalley staff have made use of RHMC facilities which made a huge difference at a difficult time in their children’s lives.

“We wanted to give something back and help other families in similar situations, so decided to get on our bikes for a miniature Moore and Smalley style Tour de France.

“The event was a huge success, with 49 people taking part throughout the day. With team spirit at a high, we managed to raise £2,212 for RHMC, quadrupling our initial £500 target.”

With houses in 14 locations across the UK, Ronald McDonald House Charities aims to keep families together by providing free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with children in hospital.

RMHC’s houses helped over 7,000 families in 2013, but the charity relies on donations to continue its work. Two bikes for the challenge were provided by Moore and Smalley client, Preston-based Ribble Cycles.
