MDA acquired by Bunzl
Blackburn-based MDA has been acquired by FTSE 100 firm Bunzl plc, in a move that the management team described as 'very positive' for both companies.The procurement and fulfillment specialist, which has premises at Mill Hill and Walker Park, is notable for its work with Coca Cola and Cadbury's and recently secured a new contract to work with Red Bull.
It celebrated its 25th anniversary last year, recording an annual turnover of £22m, and placing highly on both the Lancashire Business View Hot 100 and Fab 500.MDA shareholders Dale Stokes and Mark Jones remain managing director and finance director respectively whilst Michael Davies, after whom the business is named, will leave. There will be no other employment changes.
Dale said: "MDA will retain its name, Blackburn offices and warehouses and there will be no impact on employment whatsoever. We have had a great start to 2013, already securing some new global clients and increasing our workforce by ten. This deal is hugely positive for both the MDA team and Lancashire. It's another great success story coming from the county."The value of the deal was undisclosed. MDA processes more than one million orders annually, has 50,000 pallets in storage and more than 500,000 sq ft of warehousing. The company is also a founding patron of Blackburn Youth Zone. Bunzl chief executive Michael Roney said: “The acquisition of MDA is an exciting development for us as it extends our service offering in the retail and hospitality sectors in the UK. We are delighted to welcome their employees to the group.”
