McMurrays Haulage, the family-owned transport and distribution company, have raised an incredible £13,696 for a charity very close to their hearts, The Christie Hospital.

The Accrington-based company hosted two events on Friday 29th April, first a charity golf event at Mytton Fold Golf Club in Langho, before a Mr Brightside Ball at the Mytton Fold hotel.

Both events were held in memory of Mark McMurray, brother of McMurray’s MD David McMurray and director Nicola McMurray, who sadly passed away in 2007 at the age of just 20 following a three-year battle with leukemia.

McMurrays have run a number of fundraising events over the years, all in aid of The Christie Hospital who cared for Mark.

The latest events got underway at 10am, with 60 of Mark’s family, friends and other people from the local area taking part in the charity golf day until 3pm. The extremely popular Mr Brightside Ball then took place from 7pm, with tickets including a 3-course meal, auction and live music from the Runaway Killers – a high-energy tribute band paying homage to The Killers.

Over 200 people attended The Mr Brightside Ball, with some fantastic prizes up for grabs in the auction. There was local and national involvement with Accrington Stanley donating a signed football and two signed children’s shirts, while West Ham United donated a signed Hammers shirt.

Other prizes up for grabs included a £500 Ribby Hall voucher courtesy of Bowker Motor Group, two tickets to see Gerry Cinnamon live, composite decking and wood flooring from Havwood Flooring, as well as prizes from other businesses including Howdens, R E Dawsons, Pets Choice, Hope Technologies and Brie Amie. A number of local people and business leaders also generously donated to the cause.

McMurrays themselves also offered a number of items to the raffle, with one lucky winner getting the opportunity to name the new flagship wagon for McMurray’s Haulage.

David McMurray, managing director at McMurrays, said: “We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated prizes to our raffle. There were some sensational items up for grabs and we had some very happy winners on the night.

“The turnout for both our golf event and also the Mr Brightside Ball was fantastic and we are delighted to have raised such a significant amount of money for a charity extremely close to our hearts and one that does an inspirational job.”
