McMurrays Haulage marks 45th anniversary

Family-run haulage and warehousing business McMurrays Haulage has marked its 45th anniversary with an airbrush artist commission on a commemorative truck.

The nationally renowned business, which was established in Oswaldtwistle near Accrington in 1971 by David McMurray, has added the vehicle to its fleet of 50 modern trucks.

The Volvo FH4 500 Globetrotter truck bears the portraits of David McMurray, who passed away in 1998, and his son Mark McMurray, who passed away in 2007. They each played a significant role in the family business.

The tribute artworks were created for McMurrays Haulage by airbrush artist Matthew Paint.

Director of McMurrays Haulage, David McMurray Jnr, said: “As a family we felt the tribute artworks were a fitting way to mark our 45 years in business. We’re continually investing in our fleet with the average age of our vehicles just one year. Of course, this commemorative vehicle will stay with us much longer as it’s now a very special part of McMurrays history.”

Established in Oswaldtwistle in 1971, McMurrays Haulage provides a wide range of transportation services to customers in the UK, Ireland and Europe. The business always goes the extra mile to provide its customers with a reliable service in modern vehicles, aided by logistics technology that allows their customers to track deliveries online.

McMurrays is motoring along a journey of expansion: since relocating its headquarters to a 5.5 acre site in Church in 2014, the business has developed plans for a 15,000 square foot warehousing and loading area. It is currently awaiting a decision on its planning application.

McMurrays Haulage employs around 70 staff from the Hyndburn area.

David McMurray added: “Our family business has firm roots in Hyndburn and we’re committed to the area in which I still live. As we developed our growth plans, it was critical to us that McMurrays remained local since many of our staff live in and around Oswaldtwistle.

“Our move to Church saw us invest a further £2million in the local economy and create local jobs. As we motor towards our 46th year of business, we’re focused on our next phase of expansion: the building of a warehousing and loading area. This project will see us create yet more jobs for local people and strengthen our offering to customers.”

In addition to McMurrays Haulage’s plans for a new warehousing and loading area at their Church headquarters, the business’s next phase of expansion is focused on upgrading their fleet of vehicles. Its modern fleet is made up of 50 trucks and 110 trailers – with the average age of vehicles just one year. David McMurray added: “By the time of our 50th anniversary we aim to have an annual turnover of £10million. I’m sure my dad would feel proud of how his family have continued to run the business he established and ran for over 25 years.”
