Magma Digital launches Fun at Work trial

Chorley-based Magma Digital has signed on to trial a new scheme which will see it become a Fun at Work employer.

The programme has been launched by fellow Lancashire firm Fun at Work, a company which specialises in creating employer engagement events for household names like Google, Facebook and Regatta Outdoors.

Magma is one of the first companies to join the trial, which involves installing a different piece of fun equipment into the office each month. Each activity, provided by Fun at Work, is designed to increase staff engagement, happiness and team building. This is combined with different competitions and incentives, managed by a nominated fun expert in each workplace.

Carrie Nestor, director of operations and nominated fun expert for Magma Digital said: “As a business supporting and nurturing our team of talent is at the heart of our ethos and when we heard about the Fun at Work scheme, we knew we had to take part. Each day our staff take a few minutes break to play, whether that’s on an Atari Pong Table one month or virtual bowling the next, it’s some time out to help bring the team together through competition and create a de-stress break from whatever project they are working on.”

Sunny Sandwell, managing director at Fun at Work said: "Evidence from reports like the Harvard Business Review show that teams who take regular time out to have some fun at work are not only more productive but produce a much higher quality of work and take less absences. By adding some fun downtime to the workplace, it promotes better team work, positive mental wellbeing and helps forge a culture which can drive success for a business.”

Carrie added: “We work in a volatile industry, with the average tenure of an employee in our industry just 18 months. Keeping and retaining the right talent in this sector is absolutely pivotal to our success, and through schemes like the Fun at Work programme, and other incentives such as mentor support, fully funded European socials and annual team building retreats, we’ve managed to create a really strong culture where we retain are staff and they grow with us.”

Magma Digital is one of the UK’s leading software and consultancy firms, based in Buckshaw Village. The firm employs some of the country’s top “Zend” qualified PHP software engineers and is recognised in the industry for their expertise in change consultancy and transformation and team development work.

Magma recently won the E3 Business Award for Employer of the year for the support and incentives they offer employees and the workplace culture they’ve created.
