Lovell Homes has worked with a group of budding authors from Lancaster Lane Community Primary School to publish a story book raising awareness on the welfare of hedgehogs.

The Year 1 pupils collectively wrote the book titled ‘The Little Lost Hedgehog’ which tells the story of a young hedgehog who comes out of hibernation and finds a new home at Oaktree Grange - Lovell Homes’ development in Clayton-le-Woods.

The book, which also includes tips and advice on how to protect hedgehogs, has been brought to life with images by Lancashire illustrator Nicola Palmer.

The Year 1 class recently visited Oaktree Grange to each receive their very own copy of ‘The Little Lost Hedgehog’ with additional copies gifted to the school for its library. Lovell Homes will also be donating copies of the book to libraries, nurseries and doctors’ surgeries in the local area.

The story book has been created to raise awareness on how the public can help with the wellbeing of hedgehogs and also highlight the work being carried out at Oaktree Grange to ensure the development is as hedgehog friendly as possible.

Hedgehogs can roam between 1-2km each night so fences between gardens at Oaktree Grange have special holes also known as ‘hedgehog highways’ so they can move freely between gardens which is vital for their survival. In addition to providing hedgehog highways, Lovell Homes is providing residents with advice on how to make their gardens as hedgehog-friendly as possible and those buyers reserving homes at the development over the summer holidays will be gifted with a copy of the limited edition book*.

Simon Corbett, regional sales manager at Lovell Homes NW said: “Oaktree Grange is located in a stunning semi-rural location with a wealth of countryside and wildlife on its doorstep and with hedgehogs now out of hibernation we were keen to offer practical advice to residents and the local community but in a fun and creative way.

“The final book is an absolute credit to the Year 1 pupils at Lancaster Lane Community Primary School and we’d like to thank them for all their hard work researching and writing the story and look forward to distributing copies amongst the local community.”

Kaye Gray, deputy headteacher at Lancaster Lane Community Primary School said: "The children have thoroughly enjoyed joining in the project and have learnt so much too!  They were very excited to visit Oaktree Grange, where all of the staff were so warm and welcoming, and were thrilled to bits to receive their very own copy of the book.  The children have really been inspired and have even been looking for ways to make our school grounds more wildlife friendly."

Thoughtfully-designed and family orientated, Oaktree Grange offers a selection of stylish and contemporary 3, 4 and 5 bedroom homes, priced from £214,995.  Located in an established residential area of Clayton-le-Woods, Oaktree Grange is its own small haven, yet situated within easy reach of the motorway network and a short walk from Leyland train station.

Using a wealth of sustainable materials and offering a premium specification, including brand name appliances from Bosch and ceramic tiling from Porcelanosa, Oaktree Grange includes a playground and a wealth of open space, making it an ideal development for growing families.

The government’s Help to Buy: Equity Loan scheme is available on all homes at Oaktree Grange, allowing homeowners to purchase a new home with just a 5% deposit, alongside a mortgage for 75% of the property value and an equity loan to cover the remaining 20%, which is interest free for five years. The scheme not only helps first time buyers to get that first step on the property ladder, but also helps families upgrade or move to a bigger property up to the value of £600,000, which they may have previously thought out of reach. However, with changes to Help to Buy being introduced in 2021, meaning the scheme will only be available to first time buyers, Lovell is urging families to move quickly if they wish to utilise Help to Buy:Equity Loan to move to a bigger home.

Oaktree Grange is located in Clayton-Le-Woods, off Dallington Avenue, PR25 5AG. The marketing suite is open 7 days a week, from 10am to 5pm. Call 01772 507 453, or visit https://www.lovell.co.uk/developments/oaktree-grange-clayton-le-woods/.
