Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) continues to be recognised as among the best business schools in the world following accreditation from two important assessing bodies.

Both the Association of MBAs (AMBA) and the Small Business Charter (SBC) have awarded LUMS full five-year reaccreditations. They are among four bodies, along with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the European Foundation for Management Development’s EQUIS system, to accredit the school, placing it among the top business schools across the globe.

AMBA accredit the MBA, EMBA and Masters in Management (MiM) programmes within LUMS. Their assessment highlighted the international delivery of the EMBA, where Lancaster is seen as an example of best practice.

The Small Business Charter awards recognizes business schools who have expertise in supporting small businesses and student entrepreneurship, and who engage with the local economy.

Within LUMS, a number of courses and programmes operate for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the North West and taking in numerous sector. The SBC panel held particular praise for Lancaster’s Entrepreneurs in Residence scheme, which has been running since 2008, and which sees around 50 established business leaders each year working within the faculty to deliver masterclasses, pass on expertise and spark activity and research.

LUMS Dean, Professor Angus Laing, was pleased with the verdict of the panels, and said: “There has been major progress made here in LUMS over the past few years, and the AMBA reaccreditation – without conditions – is a credit to the whole team.

“The panel highlighted a range of areas where LUMS was to be commended, notably in respect of the international delivery of the EMBA and with the capstone company-based projects. Other commendations were around collegiality, quality of faculty, investment in infrastructure, and management of change.

“We have a strong team in LUMS and their efforts ensure our programmes continue to develop and deliver an inspiring experience and great career outcomes for our students.”

On the SBC reaccreditation, he added: “Feedback from the panel highlighted the LUMS Entrepreneurs in Residence scheme as an exemplar of outstanding practice, and we have been able to show the Small Business Charter the important work that LUMS, the University as a while and our external collaborators undertake in supporting SMEs.”
