Housebuilder Bellway recently challenged children at two primary schools in Great Eccleston to design a flag for its Alderstone Park development, located on Garstang Road.
The children at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School and St Anne’s Copp C.E Primary School rose to the challenge, with lots of eye catching entries submitted from both schools.
With so many superb designs to choose from, selecting a winner was a tough task, with Bellway eventually picking two winners, one from each school.
Kate Armer, from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, was one of the winners, with her drawing showcasing a family-friendly, warm and welcoming development. Whilst Emily Macdonald, from St Anne’s Copp C.E. Primary School, was also selected as a winner due to her excellent street scene featuring three houses.
Jenny Bell, sales director at Bellway, said: “The build of Alderstone Park is progressing well and as such we wanted to freshen up the entrance to the development.
"We decided to challenge the children at local primary schools to design a flag which would not only enhance the entrance of the development but also incorporate the local community.
“The standard of the entries received was really good. Kate and Emily both created fantastic flag designs with clear drawings using bright and bold colours. Now the flags are on display at Alderstone Park, they look vibrant and inviting. The girls are worthy winners, and I hope they enjoy spending their gift vouchers!”
Mrs Birch, headteacher at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, says: “The pupils loved getting involved in this exciting drawing competition and we are thrilled Kate’s design was selected. It was a lovely picture. Bellway also picked two runners up from St Mary’s, so we have a trio of happy children with gift vouchers to spend!”
Ms Andrea Loughran, head at St Anne’s Copp C.E Primary School, added: “The design a flag competition was a great idea that really captured the imagination of the children. Alderstone Park is close to the school, so our pupils have watched the development take shape.
"We are proud of Emily for taking part and are delighted her design has won. It’s lovely to see her design on a large flag flying at the entrance of the development.”
