SPAR customers across the North of England have a new range of tasty tomatoes to buy from Lancashire growers including Flavourfresh Salads.

Plum on the vine tomatoes have been strong sellers this month since landing on the shelves of SPAR stores that are serviced by James Hall & Co. Ltd in the North of England and are currently on promotion at £1.29 for a 200g pack.

Flavourfresh, based across four glasshouse sites in West Lancashire, has supplied James Hall & Co. Ltd with high quality chilli peppers for some time and the addition of premium tomatoes is to meet customer demands.

The company was established in 1997 and grows 270 tonnes of speciality tomatoes annually as well as 555 tonnes of soft fruit in strawberries and blackberries, and 52 tonnes of chillies.

The plum on the vine tomatoes are a versatile ingredient for lunchtime or dinner, and can be used as part of a delicious summer salad or a home-cooked flavourful pasta dish.

Wilf Whittle, fresh trading manager at James Hall & Co. Ltd, said: “It’s brilliant to work more closely with the team at Flavourfresh as there is a good synergy between the way our two companies operate and the values we share.

“Flavourfresh has a focus on delivering on taste and value, which is what our SPAR customers across the North of England are demanding from us, and when sampling the plum tomatoes, I was really impressed by the product.

“The plum on the vine tomatoes are another example of a fantastic fresh product grown within 25 miles of our Preston depot, making it a great local choice for customers in our Lancashire SPAR stores, and guaranteed quality of provenance for SPAR customers elsewhere in the North of England.”

Charmay Prout, managing director of Flavourfresh Salads, said: “We’re delighted to add our plum on the vine tomatoes to James Hall & Co. Ltd’s fresh product range and we look forward to working together with Wilf on developing our offer further for SPAR stores across the North.

“We’re exceptionally proud of the produce we grow at Flavourfresh which is carefully nurtured by our dedicated team in our state-of-the-art greenhouses.

“The continued investment into our sites means that we can supply stores for a longer period and we can consistently pick our fruit at the optimum time so customers can purchase British for more of the year and the quality of product is the very best it can be.”
