Issa brothers earn Asian Rich List recognition
The Blackburn-based Issa brothers, the family behind the chain of Euro Garages forecourts, have ranked on the Asian Rich List with Zuber picking up the entrepreneur of the year award.[caption id="attachment_22785" align="f-align-medium-right f-align-center" width="300"] Zuber Issa[/caption]
Published by Asian Media and Marketing Group (AMG), the Asian Rich List was unveiled at the national Asian Business AwardsThe panel said: "Zuber Issa, the son of immigrants who came to Blackburn in the 1960s, together with his brothers, bought a run-down garage in Bury and put a shop in the forecourt. This innovative idea proved to be their masterstroke and brought a revolution to petrol forecourts."
Euro Garages has since increased to an impressive 120 outlets across the country, employing over 1,000 people and generating a turnover exceeding £305m. Zuber is worth £86m and ranks 51st in the Asian Rich List. Shailesh Solanki, executive editor of AMG and one of a panel of four experts who has examined British Asian wealth over the last year for the Asian Rich List, said: "The list shows the remarkable resilience and diversity of Asian businesses in the UK. Despite the challenges of the general economy many business leaders in the community have seen opportunity and potential and moved quickly to capitalise.”
