Apprentices currently studying with Woodcock, Haworth and Nuttall (WHN) Solicitors have shared their experiences with the firm to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week, which is taking place this week.

WHN currently has nine members of staff undertaking apprenticeship schemes, its highest ever number. This includes five who begun their apprenticeships during the current academic year.

National Apprenticeship Week is held annually across the UK and brings together the apprenticeship community, including schools, colleges and workplaces, to celebrate everything related to apprenticeships. This year’s event is being held from February 9 to February 15.

Throughout the week, WHN apprentices have been sharing their experiences of studying and working with the firm, including the key benefits of apprenticeships, what they have learned about the professional services industry as well as what it is like working for WHN.

Anna Walmsley is a paralegal in WHN’s residential conveyancing department and began a Level 6 Solicitor Degree Apprenticeship at the University of Lancashire in September 2025.

She said: “I attend university one day a week alongside my role at WHN, which allows me to put my learning into practice in real time. WHN has been incredibly supportive throughout my apprenticeship, offering flexibility around my studies and encouraging my development both academically and professionally.

“I am gaining valuable hands-on experience and learning so much already, which has made the apprenticeship route an exciting and rewarding way to progress my legal career.”

The apprenticeships being undertaken by the nine members of the WHN team cover a wide range of legal disciplines and non-legal subjects.

Ryan Kemp works within WHN’s Information Technology department and is currently studying a Level 6 Digital Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeship, which he began in August 2024.

“Getting to work and use the theory and techniques I have been taught at university allows me to understand them much more clearly than I would in a standard degree - I get to use them in a real environment,” he said.

“I have greatly enjoyed my time here at WHN and am excited to continue learning and growing with the company.”

Michael Shroot, chief executive of WHN Solicitors, said: “Our ethos as a firm is to develop and foster deep relationships between our experts and our clients and partners. Investing in development and training for our team is vital to that, allowing our staff to build these relationships over the long-term as their experience in the industry grows.

“Celebration events like National Apprenticeship Week are a brilliant opportunity to shine a light on the hard work and commitment of our nine brilliant members of staff currently undertaking apprenticeships - they are a credit to WHN and I’m looking forward to seeing their continued development over the coming years.”
