HPA Architects celebrates as apprentice qualifies as an architect

HPA Architects, the Lancaster architecture practice, is celebrating the qualification of Holly Bate, who has recently completed her Master of Architecture Apprenticeship with the practice, and qualified as an architect.

Holly joined HPA as an apprentice in 2021 and has progressed through her studies and professional training, while gaining hands-on experience working on live projects across the practice. Holly’s qualification, awarded by Northumbria University, marks the culmination of 8 years of academic study, practical experience and professional examinations, and represents an important milestone for both her and the practice.

Andrew Walters, associate at HPA, said: “We are all incredibly proud of Holly, and everything she has achieved. Watching her develop from an apprentice to a qualified architect has been hugely rewarding for the whole team.

“Apprenticeships offer a fantastic route into architecture, because they combine academic learning with real-world experience. Holly has brought enthusiasm, commitment and talent to the practice throughout her training, and we are delighted to see her take this next step in her career.”

Holly said: “Qualifying as an architect is a huge achievement and one that I’m really proud of. The apprenticeship route has allowed me to develop my skills while working alongside experienced architects and contributing to real projects.

“I’m very grateful to everyone at HPA who has supported me throughout the process, and I’m excited to continue developing as an architect and supporting the practice’s work.”

HPA employs more than 20 professionals, and works on a range of UK projects, including leisure, hotel, industrial, commercial, housing and education projects. The practice also boasts a wealth of experience in building conservation, demonstrating a dedication to preserving architectural heritage. 

The practice hopes that Holly's achievement will encourage others considering a career in architecture to explore the apprenticeship route.
