Amidst its 40th anniversary year; award winning charity Age Concern Central Lancashire relocates its head office to Leyland.  Arkwright House, located in the centre of Preston, had been the charities head office for 39 years however this week Age Concern Central Lancashire, winners of the prestigious ‘Lancashire Business View Award 2020’ and ‘BIBAs Business Hero Award 2020’, have formally moved into their new head-quarters, located in Leyland at Beech House, Lancastergate adjacent to the magistrates court, leisure centre and civic centre.

Gifted to the charity, Arkwright House a Grade 2* listed building, had a long and quirky history before Age Concern took residency. Built in 1728 its exterior and architectural design nods to its previous owners.  Originally a free grammar school and then a hostel called the ‘Arkwright Arms’, it is probably most famous as being the home of Sir Richard Arkwright, who invented the ‘water frame’ a machine for spinning yarn, placing Arkwright House on the map of famous landmarks that started the industrial revolution.

Located close to Preston City Centre, Arkwright House had been altered and renovated to suit the needs of Age Concern however, over recent years the charity outgrew the building, in part, due to its expansion across Lancashire after delivering services primarily in the central parts of the county throughout its 40 year existence.

Suzanne Carr, charity CEO commented “Age Concern Central Lancashire is an ambitious and award winning organisation and this move is part of our strategic plan to ensure the charity is fit for the future and continues to provide first class services to people across Lancashire for the next 40 years.”

Age Concern Central Lancashire’s new head office will be located at Beech House, Lancastergate in Leyland.  Suzanne Carr continued, “Moving to Beech house means the charity can open its doors to the public and provide valuable support and information within this easily accessible location.”

Age Concern Central Lancashire will provide information and advice from its new head office on all things age related and have opened its HQ doors to members of the public who may need the charities help.  In a conscious effort to become even more accessible, the charities head offices are now open to the public between 10:00–15:00 Monday through Friday and will operate an open door policy on a walk-in basis and with no appointment needed.

In addition; those seeking help and support outside of head office walk-in hours can reach the charity via its main number (01772) 552850 (09:00-16:45) or via the website www.ageisjustanumber.org.uk.

The charity, which celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2021, provides services across Preston, Chorley and South Ribble and is now expanding along the Fylde Coast with the introduction of a new retail shop in Cleveley’s and wider community engagement support across the area.  Coupled with ambitions to grow further; the charity is marking its 40th anniversary with not only a head office move but new and exciting ventures to be released across the year.

Please note; in-line with COVID19 secure guidance; members of the public accessing Beech House for information and advice will need to follow measures in place such as wearing masks, hand sanitising and social distancing as minimum.
