Blackburn College is delighted to announce the appointment of Asif Khan as the new head of Blackburn Sixth Form.

Asif will officially begin his role at Blackburn Sixth Form in May 2021 and arrives with a wealth of experience from his time on the Senior Leadership Team at St Mary’s College.

He will lead the brand-new, redeveloped Blackburn Sixth Form which will open in September 2021.

This new, dedicated A-Level study centre will have a uniquely academic ethos, enrichment activities, an enhanced tutorial model, work experience weeks linking in with major employers and support for parents.

Blackburn Sixth Form will also have direct progression routes to Russell Group Universities, with the aim to get students prepared for moves to the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, Durham University, Lancaster University and more.

An enhanced High Achievers’ Programme will be in place for those preparing for progression to a top University and two-year Scholarships of £1,000 will be available for those with top GCSE grades.

Asif said: “I am excited to head up Blackburn’s newest Sixth Form and looking forward to helping bring a completely dedicated A-Level study centre to the Blackburn College campus.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for students who are interested in Academic Studies and studying at a top University to achieve their goals with us in a safe environment that will have new study spaces and learning areas, refreshed classrooms and common room areas.”

Students will be able to choose from over 25 A-Level subjects which will be delivered in a building that is undergoing a £1million+ redevelopment with students’ needs in mind.

The A-Level specific environment will welcome the launch of three new professional pathways of study, Law, Business and Science, which will allow students to combine A-Levels and an industry-relevant qualification.

New A-Levels including an A-Levels in Geography, Economics and English Language and Literature (combined) are also set to be introduced.

Dr Fazal Dad, principal and chief executive at Blackburn College, said: “Asif’s appointment highlights our determination to be a Further Education leader in Lancashire for A-Levels.

“We are pleased that he will be helping to lead the expansion of our A-Level delivery and his ideas will be key in shaping the future of Blackburn Sixth Form.

“The exciting development of Blackburn Sixth Form will transform A-Level and Academic Studies in Blackburn and give A-Level students a truly dedicated academic Sixth Form study experience.

“Our aim is simple. We wish to ensure that talented, high achieving students receive world-class education in Blackburn.

“Through Blackburn Sixth Form, our aim is to empower students who have aspirations of securing top A-Level grades and progressing to the UK’s most sought-after Universities.”
