Handelsbanken, a trusted relationship bank with a strong local presence across East Lancashire, is proud to announce its support for Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone as a patron.

This partnership highlights Handelsbanken’s commitment to giving back to the community and helping to create opportunities for young people in Blackburn and Darwen.

Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone provides a safe and inspiring environment for children and young adults aged 5 to 19 (and up to 25 through the Youth Hub).

It delivers a wide range of activities and programs focused on skills and aspirations, community cohesion, and health and well-being.

As a Patron, Handelsbanken joins a distinguished network of businesses that supports towards £2.5million of Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone’s operational costs, ensuring its ongoing impact and growth.

Richard Lancaster, branch manager at Handelsbanken, said: “At Handelsbanken, we believe in the power of community and the importance of investing in the next generation.

“We are delighted to support Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone and contribute to its vital work in empowering young people with opportunities, guidance, and a safe space to develop their potential.”

Handelsbanken’s commitment to supporting the Youth Zone aligns with its values of long-term partnership and social responsibility. By joining the Patron network, the bank is reinforcing its dedication to making a positive difference in the local community.

Wayne Wild, chairman at Blackburn and Darwen Youth Zone said: "We are incredibly grateful to welcome Handelsbanken as a patron.

"Their support will help us continue to provide essential services and opportunities for the young people in our area, enabling them to build brighter futures."

In addition to welcoming Handelsbanken as a Patron, Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone is excited to announce the development of its new “Aspirations, Skills, and Progression Hub,” supported by funding from the Youth Investment Fund (YIF).

The hub, set to officially launch in April, will play a crucial role in preparing young people for future employment opportunities by equipping them with essential skills, practical experience, and career guidance.

As part of this transformative initiative, the Youth Zone will introduce a dedicated Wellness Zone, aiming to provide well-being support to better prepare young people for the world of work.

By addressing mental health, resilience, and emotional well-being, the Wellness Zone will empower local youth to face workplace challenges with confidence.

This forward-thinking approach reflects Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone’s commitment to raising ambition and resilience among young people, creating a foundation for their success in life and work.
