Golfers net £5,000 for charity

An annual golf event, organised by law firm Woodcocks Haworth & Nuttall, has raised more than £5,000 for charity.

The event, now in its fifth year, saw 19 businesses from across East Lancashire compete at Rossendale Golf Club. Members of the overall winning team, driving range Golf Rossendale, were each awarded golf bags.

The proceeds totalling £5,250 will go towards the charity’s aim to provide free palliative care for people diagnosed with cancer and other degenerative non-malignant illness.

Senior partner and head of the commercial dispute resolution team, David McCann, said: “As patrons of the charity and a firm committed to its community, we understand that the support Rossendale Hospice provides has helped thousands of local people in need of care as well as their families and friends. We are grateful to everyone who took part to raise money for this hugely valuable cause.”

Sam Morris, fundraising manager at Rossendale Hospice added: “In a tough economic climate it’s a huge challenge to keep our services running and we are so grateful for the continued support of Woodcocks Haworth & Nuttall and other local businesses who lend their support in this way.” The hospice is a registered charity founded in 1988 and is based on Bacup Road in Rawtenstall. Rossendale Hospice runs numerous fundraising events throughout the year including the Annual Ball and the Ladies Christmas Lunch.
