Forbes Solicitors launches new private landlord team

Forbes Solicitors has set up a new private landlord team in response to an increased demand for advice and assistance with a variety of tenancy management issues.

The team, which launches a series of advice events for landlords this Wednesday (July 6), operates from within Forbes’ housing and regeneration department in Preston.

It also deals with recovering possession of the property both at the end of the tenancy and in response to rent arrears and other breaches of tenancy.

It acts for more than 100 housing associations across the country, some with in excess of 70,000 properties, and has a large Housing Litigation team, comprising 11 solicitors.

The private landlord team is finalising an online service to landlords, which will be launched in the near future.

 

A full list of seminars, which all include question and answer sessions, is set out below:
  1. How to get possession of your property – the new regime. (Wednesday July 6 at Forbes’ Preston office)
  • Successfully dealing with troublesome tenants
  • Considering the commercial approach
  • Changes to the s21 regime including changes to notices and notice requirements
  1. Tenancy deposits and other common pitfalls – what you need to know. (Wednesday September 7)
  • What are the landlord’s duties?
  • What are the consequences of failure to comply?
  • What is the impact on attempts to recover possession?
  1. Landlord’s health and safety obligations – what are the risks? (Wednesday November 2)
  • What are the landlord’s duties?
  • HMOs
  • Gas safety
  • Electrical safety
  • Fire safety
  • Legionella
  • Asbestos
4.Unlawful eviction and abandonment – minimising your risk (Wednesday February 1, 2017)
  • What are the offences a landlord can commit?
  • What are the potential sanctions?
  • How to avoid unlawful eviction
  • What to do with tenants’ belongings?
