Sub36 event at Deaf Village

Lancashire Business View’s Sub36 is offering the county’s up-and-coming business talent a fun hands-on experience at learning British Sign Language.

The Sub36 campaign shines the spotlight on Lancashire's young professionals and gives credit to outstanding workplaces that empower the younger generation to thrive.

The next event, supported by Bowker MINI and Pierce Business Advisory and Accountancy Service, is at the Deaf Village North West, Blackburn on August 17, from 10am to noon and delegates will have a tour and learn about the facility and take part in several fun activities.

Olivia McCaughran, client engagement manager from Lancashire Business View, said: “This is a great opportunity to find out about the Deaf Village.

“People attending will get the chance to learn how to sign their name, business name and some other basics like saying hello and goodbye.

“It is about making people more comfortable when they are around deaf people, understand the challenges they face and enjoy the best of both worlds.”

Deborah Blades, managing director at Deaf Village North West, said: “We’re thrilled to welcome the Sub36 event.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to open our doors to the local business community, share a bit about what we do, and highlight why deaf awareness matters in the workplace.

“The more businesses understand the barriers Deaf people face - and how easy some of them are to remove - the more inclusive and connected Lancashire can be.

“We’re really looking forward to making new connections and starting those conversations.”

Lauren Myers, marketing executive, Pierce, said: “Supporting the region’s young professionals and highlights the importance of inclusivity, recognising the valuable contributions of deaf people in business and creating opportunities for everyone to connect, collaborate and inspire the next generation of leaders.”

Amy Lancaster-Hall, group marketing manager Bowker MINI, said: “Sub36 is a great initiative and always comes up with great activities for those who are making waves in business at such a young age.

“It is great idea to visit the Deaf Village, find out about the challenges facing deaf people and learn how to do some sign language.”
